At Made by Chapter, we aim to feature founders and brands that are doing good. LaRayia Gaston at Lunch on Me has done just that, by using her time and resources to help people in need.

At 14 and working at a restaurant, LaRayia Gaston discovered how much good food is wasted. One night after cleaning, she took the wasted food and fed a homeless man, but little did she know this one act would guide her life.

Growing up in the Church, she was taught to always give 10% of what she had. However, at 15 she didn’t necessarily resonate with the Church, and asked her mom if she could simply feed people instead. This is how Lunch on Me was born- let’s take a look.

Throughout her life, LaRayia always helped to feed people in need. If she was buying a coffee, she’d buy extra milk for whoever was around; if it was a holiday, she was passing out extra meals; if she was at the grocery store, she was making an extra purpose. She did this for 10 years before anyone even knew.

After starting her volunteering career, she felt discouraged- all these nonprofits were about the numbers, and she didn’t feel as though anyone truly cared about the individuals being served. Because of this, she wanted to start her own.

Although she didn’t know how, she got her friends together and fed over 500 people on the first day. And there, Lunch on Me was born. Now, Lunch on Me redistributes organic food that otherwise would have been wasted, feeding over 10,000 people each month.
