Being diagnosed with cancer at 31 is devastating, especially when you can’t necessarily relate to your support groups. This is what made Lauren start her own and grow it to help other cancer patients and survivors.

After Lauren was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 31, she decided to “grab her breast cancer diagnosis by the boobs”. She started her own blog and Instagram to document and share her story as she was treated for and tackled cancer at a young age.

The purpose of her journey with her blog and Instagram, GIRLvsCANCER, was to connect with other female cancer patients, share stories, tips and tricks as well as share advice and encouragement. Yes, there were already communities out there with the same aim, but all of them were aimed at women over the age of 50 and at her age, she didn’t feel connected with them.

With that, she filled this extremely important gap in the community. She also uses her community to help women connect with their bodies and encourage them to take responsibility for checking themselves and their symptoms on the regular because it really could save your life.

Lauren is also on a mission to change the stigma around talking about cancer itself by dragging it into the mainstream media and breaking open dialogue around the disease. We’re so inspired by the work she has done and continues to do in this space, she’s built an incredibly empowering community and has made a positive impact in the world.
