Suze is an inspiring UK-based CBD expert. She founded the CBD wellness website Ciao CBD because she believes we can all harness the power and benefits of CBD when armed with the right knowledge and recommendations. We sat down to talk about how it can be used, how to know if you’re getting your penny’s worth, some of her favourite products and what it’s like to be an entrepreneur in the CBD space.
What are the most common uses of CBD oil?
Like many wellness supplements, CBD can help to maintain a general sense of balance and wellbeing in our bodies. So many people take CBD oil to help cope with things like stress, anxiety, pain relief and to ease aching muscles after exercise. As more research is undertaken into the benefits of CBD we’re beginning to see it appear in facial serums and oils, body balms, bath bombs and salts, and even hair care.
CBD oil can be expensive, how can I know I am getting my money’s worth and do I really need to spend a lot?
My top tip would be to do your research before you buy. First and foremost check that it has either 0% THC (the compound that makes you high) or no more than the legal limit of 0.2% which should be clearly stated on the label. If it isn’t, walk away. My other recommendations would be to always read up on how the product is made and what ingredients it contains. Look for information on where the CBD is sourced from and whether it’s ethically produced or organic, and also check to see if they have lab reports. Most brands should have an FAQ section on their website which is always a good starting point. If you’re not sure about anything, don’t be afraid to call or email them to ask any questions you may have. If they can’t answer, don’t buy from them.
When you’re just starting out with CBD oil always start with a lower CBD content such as 3% or 5% and build up from there. When it comes to how much you should spend, this is where your research comes in handy as you’ll be able to compare the price points of different brands and work out what you should be paying. Of course, you can buy CBD that costs very little but always remember that you’re putting CBD oil into your body. So if you can afford it, try to buy a quality brand.
What is your favourite product? What’s it for?
It tends to change quite a bit but at the moment I’m loving Dr Ed CBD Relief Cream. It’s designed to relieve aching joints and muscles. I’m currently using it on a daily basis to soothe my shoulders after I’ve spent the day typing!
How did you get into creating a blog and what made you work on the CBD wellness space?
I actually started my CBD journey when I was asked to help a US doctor rebrand his website and write content about CBD. That’s when I started to learn and understand more about what it actually was. Then I started asking my friends if they’d heard of it and the answer was always ‘ well yes, but I’m not sure what it’s all about, isn’t it cannabis and doesn’t it make you high?’ That gave me the idea to start Ciao CBD as a way for people to learn more about what it was. To show that it was safe and more importantly legal to use and showcase quality products they could buy.
You’re a brand expert, what CBD wellness brand are you most impressed with and why?
That’s a really difficult question to answer as there are so many. I’m glad to say that a lot of them are British brands, who are doing some great things in the CBD space! But as you’ve asked, I would have to say Dr Ed. I love the simplicity of their branding but I also like the fact that they make it easy for you to find the right CBD products for your needs. They have this very simple questionnaire on their website. You select the appropriate box depending on what you’re looking to treat and they use your answers to recommend the right products from their range. So if you’re looking for a bit of a boost they may recommend their CBD Energy range, or if you want to relax they may suggest their CBD Calm oil. Lots of people struggle to know what products they should be using so I love the fact that they do a lot to educate too.

What would be your advice to anyone starting a CBD brand?
Do it out of love and not because you think you’re going to make a quick buck because CBD oil is all the rage. When you’re selling a product you’ll need to think about how you’re going to catch people’s attention. Make them believe that your product is better than anyone else’s. Think about how you’ll make your brand stand out from the crowd both visually and in the way you position yourself.
“If I could tell you one thing”? What advice you would tell your younger self or to anyone in the world?
Don’t take advice from too many people because too many opinions can be confusing! If you believe in something, as Nike says, just do it!!
